Registers the city does not publish
- Building permits. None, anywhere. Its own guide explains where to look instead.
- Inspections and code enforcement. No case file, no findings, no notices. What a resident reported to 311 is in the report; what the city decided about it is not.
- Rent stabilization. Oakland has rent control and publishes no register of covered units, so no rent-control finding is made — not a guess from the year built, which is how it is usually done and usually wrong.
- Soft-story retrofit. The program exists and its results are published only as rates by year and by race, with no address in them. The report cannot say whether a particular building is on that list and does not imply one way or the other.
- Evictions and habitability. Published the same way: as tables of rates, with no address. Nothing about tenancy is claimed.
- Businesses. No live register of business locations, so there is no churn section.
- Building inspections. None. The only inspection findings in an Oakland report are the county’s food-facility inspections, which cover places that serve food and nothing else.
- A building footprint for most parcels. The city publishes shapes for about 5,100 of its 113,000 parcels, weighted toward downtown, so “what is standing on it” answers for roughly one address in twenty-two and is absent for the rest rather than reading as an empty lot.
- Shaking scenarios. The regional scenario maps this product carries are published on San Francisco’s portal and clipped to San Francisco, so the shaking half of California’s hazard disclosure is not in an Oakland report. The state’s fault-zone map is, and the Hayward fault runs along the base of these hills.
The one that stopped
The county's ownership transfer list — the source of every price in the report — covers 2 April 2023 to 31 March 2025 and has not been added to since. It is a snapshot the county republished rather than a feed. The section names both ends of that window on every report rather than implying it runs to today.
How far behind the rest runs
Measured as completeness ramps rather than read off an update stamp: 311 publishes the same day, police incidents about five weeks behind, parking citations about five weeks.
What the report does instead
Each absence is named on the report itself, in the place that would have held it, so an empty space never reads as a clean bill. A register that did not answer is marked unread, which is a different thing from a register that answered with nothing.
