Five lists, one file
The city publishes its development approvals as three files — created, issued and closed. The lists here read the issued file, because issued is the point at which work may lawfully start, and that is the morning somebody needs a crew or a machine. A created approval is a plan.
- Building permits issued. Combination and building permits, the approvals that precede real construction.
- Solar approvals issued. Photovoltaic approvals under SB 379, which the state requires the city to issue over the counter — 15,014 of them in under three years.
- Electrical, plumbing and mechanical. Trade permits issued on their own rather than inside a building permit.
- Construction noise permits. A permit to work outside ordinary hours: the earliest published sign that work nearby is about to get loud.
- Traffic control permits. A permit to close or narrow a lane or a footway. 26,270 on the record, and the most reliable signal that a street is about to be dug up.
What none of them is
None is a violation, because the city's code-enforcement file stopped being updated in 2018. None is a crime report: those are in the report's own section, counted, not listed.
These lists are built from a downloaded copy refreshed twice a day, so each says when its copy was taken rather than quoting a publishing lag this product cannot measure from a file.
