Eleven lists, one filing type each
Every weekday the city records structures declared unfit, rentals cited for operating unregistered, inspectors' findings, permits issued and reports of dumping and vacancy. These are those filings, sorted by type, newest first, and never ranked. You choose which arrive at 6:30am Eastern.
Buildings coming empty
- Condemnations. The city has declared a structure unfit — the strongest thing Cleveland publishes about a building, and it names the garage separately from the house. About 140 a quarter.
- Failure to register a rental. A rental cited by name for operating outside the registration system. The closest thing either city publishes to a list of rentals outside the system.
- Major work filed. Permits with a declared job value over $100,000.
- Vacant property reports. What residents reported to 311 as vacant.
- Board-up permits filed. A building being boarded shut — the earliest published sign it is going out of use. About 90 a month.
What is being built
- Demolition issued. A permit to pull a structure down, keyed on the issue date. About 30 a month. Read from the main permit feed on the city's own word, because the layer named for demolitions holds only half of them.
- New construction issued. Permits to erect a new building, with event tents and stages excluded by the city's own wording. About 25 a month.
- Roofing work issued. The largest single body of equipment work the city files. About 185 a month.
Condition and compliance
- Exterior maintenance violations and elevator violations, each an inspector's finding by name.
- Illegal dumping reports, from 311.
Cleveland's permit feed runs about three weeks behind its own update stamp and its violations about two, measured. The date on a row is when the city filed it, not when it reached you.
